Steve Brook is running to become a member of the Edgmont Township Board of Supervisors. He and his wife, Linda, have lived in Edgmont for 34 years and raised their two children in the Rose Tree-Media School District.
Steve has a degree from St. Joseph’s College and is now retired, having spent his career working in IT systems and software sales. He has continued his education over the years by taking additional courses at Delaware Valley Community College, Penn State Great Valley, and the University of Pennsylvania, honing such professional skills as project management and public speaking.
During his career, Steve not only worked within a corporate structure, he also has experience building a business from the ground up. He is knowledgeable about all the facets involved, from sales and budgets to training and implementation.
Steve is an avid swimmer and long-distance runner, having completed five Chesapeake Bay crossings and 85 marathons, including 14 Boston marathons. Since his retirement, Steve has focused on his passion for running, combining this pursuit with his business expertise to sell a software-based enhancement to major U.S. road race management.
He remains an active member of his community through several volunteer efforts, including having served as a board member and long-time president of Okehocking Hills Civic Association, and being a member of the Edgmont Township Trails Committee. He was a member of the initial Back on My Feet running program to combat homelessness, before it launched nationally. Steve and a friend also initiated a running program at the Children's Village in Rosemont for a year, and he was a running coach for five years with the Chester County YMCA STRIDE program.
Steve is running for Edgmont Supervisor because he wants to make a positive impact on his community. He wants to create a more walkable space, helping residents to connect with the outdoors. He also will increase efforts to make residents aware of upcoming township business, so everyone can feel heard and be treated fairly.
Steve believes success throughout his career grew from such personal characteristics as empathy, honesty, and a commitment to the long view with win-win outcomes. He plans to apply these same values to the position of Edgmont Supervisor.
