Philip Block is running for mayor of Chester Heights Borough. Philip is a Ph.D. scientist and an experienced businessman who is committed to environmental issues and to the Borough of Chester Heights. Philip is Technology Director at Evonik Corp., where he specializes in water treatment and technology, regulatory management, and being a liaison with state and federal regulators. Philip’s management experience includes leading multifunctional and multinational teams, and overseeing budgets in excess of $50 million. Philip served on the Chester Heights Borough Council for four years (2015-2019) and is past president of his homeowners association.
Philip is a strong proponent of community safety issues, and as mayor would work toward ensuring the long-term financial stability of the Chester Heights Fire Department. Further, Philip is committed to finding alternative and more responsive policing solutions. His vision is to develop a more cohesive community spirit within Chester Heights through recognition of neighbors and local businesses.
Philip was a candidate for State Representative in the 168th District in 2018. Philip is a member of the Mid-County Democratic Committee where he is vice-chairman. He also is involved with such organizations as Philadelphia Sinfonia, the Water Environment Federation, the American Water Association, and the Center for Produce Safety.
With his prior council service, Philip has experience in managing community issues. He made the decision to run for borough council in 2014, when community voices were ignored in favor of high-density housing. Philip wanted to make the council more responsive to community needs. As mayor, Philip would be a powerful voice and advocate for Chester Heights Borough residents at both county and state levels.
Philip believes that local elections are vital to the community. By voting in local municipal elections, you have input in shaping and protecting your neighborhood and community. If, instead, you sit out the election and don’t vote, you may lose what is near and dear to your heart: the character of your community, open space to enjoy, and the health and safety of the environment.
Philip’s education includes a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor of science degree from North Carolina State University. Philip holds ten patents, with a concentration on environmental needs, and has two patents pending. Philip and his wife, Kelly, and their two children, Grant and Lauren, have lived in Chester Heights for 20 years.
