Dani Stefanik is running for Middletown Township Council in District 4. She has nearly a decade of experience as a fundraising executive working in nonprofits and higher education, where she served on several governing bodies. Dani is currently Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at The School in Rose Valley.
Dani and her husband, Derek, live in his childhood home in Middletown Township, where they are raising their sons, ages 5 and 7. After the birth of their second child, Dani temporarily left the workforce to be a stay-at-home parent. She now is preparing for a career in interior design.
Dani believes in the importance of local elections, and she wants a voice in decisions being made within the community. “So many things about our daily lives are decided by local officials, and too often people don’t realize who makes those decisions – or how those officials got where they are. National and state politics get the most attention. What people need to understand is that local politics is just as important. It’s also where many candidates get their start. So, paying attention to who gets elected to local office matters today and, more broadly, for the future.”
Dani’s own focus is on the present – and the example she sets for her children. She wants her sons to understand that, in order to make their community better, they need to step up and become part of that work.
Top-of-mind issues for Dani are conservation and maintenance of open space, responsible development, government transparency, and community safety. She expects more from local government, and she is running for office to be part of that change.
Dani graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Art History. She then studied in London, at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, where she received a master’s degree in Fine and Decorative Art, with a concentration in 18th-century American furniture. Dani moved back to the U.S., to Boston, where she began her fundraising career at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
She and her husband returned to Pennsylvania in 2013 to start a family, and Dani continued her career, first at the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation and then Penn State Brandywine. As a stay-at-home parent, Dani became an active volunteer at The School in Rose Valley and the Auction Gala Committee for Planned Parenthood of Southeastern PA. Dani began studies in 2018 at Moore College of Art and Design to earn a certificate in Interior Design.
Dani has been a committee member of Mid-County Democrats since 2017, becoming Vice Chair of Middletown, Districts 2 & 4, in 2020.
